• This device helps determine the amount of sunlight on a stream or lake - and thus the heat it creates - by estimating the amount of surrounding vegetation. It uses permanent points or transects to calculate the relative density of plant growth above and surrounding the sampling site

• To take readings, hold level at elbow-height at a distance of 12 to 18”. By counting the dots and multiplying as per the instructions, you obtain the percent of overhead area not covered by the canopy

• Includes: mirror with 37 grid intersections forming 24 squares. Housed in a 3 x 3 x 1” handsome walnut case with instructions attached to the lid, it includes a leveling bubble to ensure accurate readings. (The readings from the convex version represent a larger sample size)
